European Regional Development Fund

The EU ERDF programme aims to strengthen economic and social cohesion in the EU by correcting imbalances between its regions.

The ERDF contribute to all 11 TOs. However, it will devote the majority of its resources to:
  • Research & Development ‒ €39.9 billion
  • SMEs ‒ €32.8 billion
  • Low carbon economy ‒ €30.1 billion
  • Transport and energy infrastructure ‒ €25.6 billion

The ERDF will also support cross-border transnational and interregional cooperation under the European Territorial Co-operation goal.

In the England Programme the Priorities are:
  • Priority Axis 1: Promoting research and innovation
  • Priority Axis 2: Enhancing access to, and use and quality of, information and communications technology
  • Priority Axis 3: Enhancing the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises
  • Priority Axis 4: Supporting the shift towards a low carbon economy in all sectors
  • Priority Axis 5: Promoting climate change adaptation, risk prevention and management
  • Priority Axis 6: Preserving and protecting the environment and promoting resource efficiency
  • Priority Axis 7: Sustainable transport in Cornwall and the isles of Scilly
  • Priority Axis 8: Promoting social inclusion and combating poverty and any discrimination
  • Priority Axis 9: Technical Assistance
